Prysmian is a global leader in power and communications cables, providing HVAC and HVDC cable systems for land and submarine connections. The UK Power Grids team deploys High Voltage Cable Technicians for jointing and related works on HV cable systems that form a significant part of the UK energy grid. The role supports both maintenance of the current network and the installation of new energy sources.
The 12-month training programme is based at our site in Eastleigh, Hampshire. It covers XLPE cable installation projects, and service and repair of fluid-filled cables, with training primarily conducted in our dedicated Jointing School. Upon successful completion, there are opportunities for further training as part of ongoing development in the high voltage industry.
During training, Trainee Technicians will learn skills and techniques including braising, welding, lead plumbing, HV elastomeric cable jointing and terminating, HV fluid-filled cable jointing and terminating, and HV cable system maintenance.
Responsibilities
* Perform jointing and related works on HV cable systems as part of the UK Power Grids team.
* Assist with maintenance of the current network and potentially support the installation of new energy sources.
* Work through a 12-month training programme focused on XLPE cable installation and HV cable maintenance tasks.
Qualifications
* A desire for a career with defined objectives in a technical field.
* An interest in Engineering.
* Experience using handheld tools.
* Flexibility to work irregular hours and be away from home for work.
* Ability to work in all weather conditions.
* During the training period, based at our site in Eastleigh, Hampshire during the week; accommodation and expenses support are provided for those who are not local.
* Full and valid driving licence due to frequent travel.
