Offer description

We are a forward-thinking education service dedicated to supporting children and young people who learn outside of traditional schooling and techniques, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Our aim is to provide personalised, one-to-one support that helps students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

We are seeking kind, patient, and knowledgeable tutors with expertise in English/Language, History and Geography.

Our students have a wide variety of needs and ambitions - from strengthening core skills to working towards key qualifications such as GCSEs. We specialise in supporting learners with Autism, ADHD, PDA, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, and other neurodiverse profiles, as well as those experiencing anxiety or past school-related traumas.

With an approach designed for modern learners in today's Britain, we provide a flexible and supportive environment that helps children and young people build confidence, independence, and unmask their true potential.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

You will:

* Establish a trusting and supportive mentoring relationship.
* Deliver engaging, personalised sessions adapted to the student's interests, pace, and learning style.
* Plan lessons that support anxiety and consider past school-related traumas, creating a safe and positive learning environment.
* Support the development of executive function skills, including organisation, planning, and time management.
* Teach students "how to learn" strategies, helping them become independent and confident learners.
* Use calm, non-directive communication and sensory-friendly approaches, including movement or brain breaks.
* Prepare materials using a weekly expenses allowance if required.
* Help students achieve academic goals across a range of qualifications, including GCSEs.

Skills & Experience

* Strong subject knowledge in English/Language, History and Geography (GCSE level or higher).
* Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, Autism, ADHD, PDA, anxiety, or sensory processing differences.
* Understanding of neurodiverse learning styles and ability to adapt teaching accordingly.
* Flexible, creative, and patient approach with strong interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

* Experience tutoring young people learning outside traditional school settings.
* Familiarity with low-arousal, anxiety-aware strategies and neurodiversity-affirming practice.

Qualifications and Training

To ensure suitability for the subjects you teach, applicants must have one or more of the following:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
* Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT)
* Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
* A minimum of 1 year's experience as a teacher, tutor or mentor in the UK

Applicants should have relevant expertise in the subjects they teach and confidence in adapting their approach for neurodivergent learners.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in:

* Mainstream and SEN Settings: Supporting children and young people, including those with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
* Neurodiverse Learners: Supporting students with Autism, ADHD, PDA, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, anxiety, or learning-related trauma.
* Multisensory Learning: Using multisensory techniques to meet diverse learning needs.
* Collaboration: Working with families, caregivers, and directors to ensure student progress and aligned strategies.
* Assessment and Reporting: Evaluating progress, providing reports, and adapting teaching methods effectively.
* Travel: Willingness and ability to travel to Barnham, Chichester and Pulborough.

Additional Requirements

* Full, clean driving licence.
* Legal right to work in the UK.
* Enhanced DBS check required, with strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.

Key Attributes

* Ability to create a nurturing and supportive environment.
* Friendly, fun, and caring personality.
* Strong planning and organisational skills.

* Ability to boost social confidence and self-esteem.
