Software Engineer - Test Equipment Development
The Electronics & Embedded Systems (EES) business unit delivers world‑class real‑time embedded solutions, specialising in safety‑critical control systems. We are looking for experienced Software Engineers to help grow our team.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop and verify complex hardware and software test systems.
* Produce supporting documentation and validation evidence.
* Identify faults and perform root‑cause analysis on developed test equipment.
* Enhance legacy code bases with new features.
* Rapidly prototype new features and interfaces to meet project needs.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
* Proven experience as a Software Engineer on complex projects.
* Eligibility and willingness to obtain Security Check Clearance (SC Clearance) is essential.
Essential Skills
* Expertise in C, C++, C#, Assembler (8051, 8086), Embedded Linux, VxWorks, Test Stand, and tools such as DOORS, Rhapsody EA, Windchill, and MBSE frameworks.
* Proficient in SysML and UML, with experience applying model‑based approaches to systems and software engineering challenges.
* Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle and implementation of traceable software amendments.
Desired Skills
* Knowledge of electronics measurement and debugging techniques using DVMs, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analysers.
Experience
* Experience working within the UK Defence industry or on defence‑related projects.
* Familiarity with additional programming languages and tools relevant to defence software development.
* Knowledge of software testing methodologies and tools, including unit testing and automated testing frameworks.
* Experience in embedded systems and developing test systems that interface directly with hardware.
* Experience maintaining and enhancing complex embedded systems, including legacy codebases.
* Experience with automation, continuous integration, and DevOps principles and practices.
* Experience with communications and serial interfaces such as TFTP, Ethernet, RS232, RS422, RS485, Modbus, CAN, and 1553 buses.
