Stroke Specialist Nurse, Band 6, Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

The Stroke Department provides care to critically and acutely ill patients and has a reputation for compassionate, high‑quality care. The department operates a 10‑bed hyper‑acute stroke unit and 33 acute stroke and rehabilitation beds, delivering coordinated, multidisciplinary care for stroke patients.

Main duties of the job

The role involves delivering specialist stroke care to acute stroke patients and patients requiring rehabilitation, working inter‑disciplinarily with other professionals to achieve optimal outcomes. It also requires leadership to ensure the stroke service runs efficiently and contributes to the development of high‑quality stroke care services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Registered nurse, 1st level
• ENB 998/941
• 1st level degree in nursing or equivalent

Experience

• Clinical audit skills
• Substantial experience as a senior nurse

Knowledge

• Knowledge of research
• Awareness of national policy and guidance on stroke/older people
• Extended scope of practice (phlebotomy, cannulation, intravenous injection)
• Leadership skills such as negotiating, influencing, and persuasive skills
• Ability to demonstrate compassionate values and dignified care

Personal Circumstances

• Ability to work as a member of a team and act as an autonomous practitioner
• Work independently
• Excellent communicator, including written, verbal and presentation skills
• Time management
• Highly developed interpersonal skills including motivation

Salary

£39,959 to £48,117 a year per annum pro rata
