Job title: Senior Clinical Scientist - Urodynamics and Clinical Instrumentation
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated healthcare scientist to join our team for 12 months as maternity leave cover. This role is based in the Urology department, providing the urodynamic service for outpatient, ambulatory and video urodyamics. The successful candidate will be a key part of the multidisciplinary team, working with complex urology patients in one of the largest urology departments in the UK, providing highly specialist care for patients from across the UK and abroad.
Main duties of the job
The principal aim of this post is to lead, supervise, maintain and develop services requiring urodynamics, with emphasis on providing routine clinical diagnostic services in Urology to University College Hospitals, University College Hospitals at Westmoreland Street and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
There is a significant direct clinical aspect to the post in the provision of urodynamics services. This involves directing and carrying out Pressure/Flow Studies (CMG) in the Out-Patients Department (OPD), and Video-Cystometrogram (VCMG) in the Uro-radiology Department, to demonstrate specific clinical symptoms. It involves patient contact, interpretation of clinical investigations and reporting findings to referring clinicians. A high degree of technical and scientific skill and a sound understanding of the clinical background are required. A thorough understanding of all equipment used and their limitations are essential.

Job description & responsibilities
The post holder will apply scientific knowledge and problem solving to a range of diagnostic and therapeutic problems. Administrative and supervisory skills will be used to organise service provision. The post holder will undertake teaching, lecturing and be responsible for the training, education and supervision of local and visiting staff, contributing to their continuing education and development of competencies.
* Participate in urodynamics studies, including:
o VCMG studies in the Uro-radiology Department under supervision, with a radiographer and/or healthcare assistant.
o CMG and ambulatory urodynamic studies in the OPD under supervision, with a nurse or healthcare assistant. Ambulatory studies typically 3–5 hours, occasionally overnight as in-patient.
o Assist radiologists in VCMG studies in the Uro-radiology Department with radiographers; undergo training to carry out and lead on VCMG studies in the Uroradiology Department.
* Make correct scientific interpretation of study findings with support from Principal Clinical Scientists and create reports for review prior to submission to referring consultants.
* Adapt study procedures as needed to overcome artefacts or technical issues, while ensuring patient safety and well-being at all times.

Knowledge and Qualifications
* Essential: Bachelor and Masters Degrees in a Physical Science, Engineering or equivalent
* Essential: Eligibility for State Registration as a Clinical Scientist
* Essential: Membership of a relevant Professional Institute
* Desirable: PhD or equivalent research experience
* Desirable: Chartered Engineer or Chartered Scientist
Communication
* Desirable: Record of published papers in peer‑reviewed scientific journals
* Desirable: Record of presenting work at major scientific meetings
Experience
* Essential: Experience working in a scientific healthcare environment
