Overview
We seek a Head of Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics who will also serve as the Robert Rankin Chair of Engineering. Candidates should have a strong international research profile in a field within the remit of Electrical Engineering and Electronics (EEE), along with experience in successfully leading a team or holding a responsible role in an academic department or school. As Head of Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Department, as well as for setting and executing the longer-term strategy for ensuring that the Department is a modern, professional and international centre for excellence in research and teaching in electrical engineering and electronics.
Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day operations of the Department and set long-term strategy to maintain excellence in research and teaching in electrical engineering and electronics.
* Work closely with the Dean of the School of Engineering; be a key member of the School Leadership Team.
* Demonstrate a track record of high-quality research outputs and secured grant income; understand effective higher education teaching.
* Lead a diverse team and foster an inclusive work environment.
Qualifications
* Strong international research profile in Electrical Engineering and Electronics (EEE).
* Experience in leading a team or holding a leadership role in an academic department or school.
* Track record of sustained high-quality research outputs and grant income from diverse sources.
* Solid understanding of operational aspects of running a department within a university setting.
* Ability to lead a diverse team and promote an inclusive work environment.
* Available to start April 2026; role initially for five years.
