What this role is all about: We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who’s passionate about using data to make a positive impact. You’ll take ownership of building scalable data pipelines, working independently while collaborating with teams across the business. As a trusted expert, you’ll communicate clearly, support data science delivery, and coach others, while continuously exploring new ways to improve our technology and bring fresh data into the organisation.
Key Actions
4. Work closely with our Data Engineering team to deliver reliable, high-quality data that powers strong data flows and predictive models
5. Use a range of languages and tools to build and manage robust data pipelines across multiple systems
6. Contribute to key decisions that drive a strong, outcome-focused (SWAT) approach
7. Explore new opportunities to bring in data and unlock more value from what we already have
8. Collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, Architecture and wider tech teams to design, build, test and maintain scalable data environments
9. Understand GDPR principles and confidently raise any concerns where needed
10. Show genuine curiosity for new technologies and a strong interest in the Vitality business
11. Support and mentor fellow Data Engineers to help the team grow
12. Listen actively to both technical and business needs, and communicate complex ideas in a clear, accessible way
13. Spot potential challenges early and proactively shape solutions that build trust and deliver great outcomes
What do you need to thrive?
14. Bachelor’s degree in IT, Systems, Sciences or Maths
15. 5+ years’ experience across BI, data warehousing, data management and ETL
16. Strong experience delivering data solutions in BI warehouses and/or data lakes (on-prem & cloud)
17. Hands-on with Big Data tools, data ingestion and streaming
18. Experience working with data lakes and visualisation (incl. semantic modelling)
19. Strong understanding of data architecture
20. Confident stakeholder engagement and cross-team collaboration
21. Passion for sharing knowledge and supporting team development
