Overview
MDPI UK is seeking recent PhD graduates to join its Editorial team as an Assistant Editor (PhD holder) – Physics. This full-time, permanent role is based in our city centre office in Manchester, UK.
This is a full-time in-office position located next to Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester. The role involves staying connected to scientific research by helping researchers worldwide publish their latest results.
Responsibilities
* Support the editorial process for academic research journals in your domain of expertise
* Organize peer review process for submitted manuscripts and coordinate editorial decisions
* Handle email communication between parties involved in the publication process
* Collaborate with other members of the editorial and production teams
* Ensure scholarly articles are accurately edited and published according to tight deadlines with a high degree of consistency
Requirements
* A PhD degree in physics or a physics-adjacent subject (e.g., Applied Physics, Computational Physics, Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Particle Physics, Optics and Photonics, Materials Physics, Physical Electronics, Quantum Information Science)
* Excellent written and spoken English skills
* Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Team player able to work in a dynamic, international environment
* Detail oriented with the capacity to see the big picture
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Very good communication and coordination skills
The career trajectory includes work at conferences, visiting scholars, and marketing events. Applicants should be interested in working face-to-face with the scholarly community and promoting open access. No previous editorial experience is required; familiarity with the academic editorial process is an advantage. Training will be provided on the job for the first six months, supervised by an assigned tutor. Depending on your background, you may be assigned to journals related to your field of study.
