Service Care Solutions is working with a well-regarded local authority in Devon that is looking to appoint a Senior Childcare Solicitor to their in-house legal team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced public law solicitor who’s looking for meaningful work and a strong work-life balance.
Role: Senior Childcare Solicitor
Location: Local Authority – Devon – REMOTE
Umbrella Rate: £50-£55ph
PAYE Inc Holiday Rate: £44.06 - £48.41ph
Contract Length: 3 months ongoing
The Role:
You’ll be managing a complex caseload of public law childcare matters, including care proceedings, pre-proceedings work under the PLO, and related Children Act applications. The role also includes:
1. Providing high-quality legal advice to Children’s Services.
2. Drafting key legal documentation and representing the authority in court.
3. Offering guidance and informal supervision to junior legal staff where needed.
4. Playing an active role in strategy and legal planning within the team.
What the council is looking for:
5. A qualified Solicitor or Barrister with substantial experience in public law children matters.
6. Previous local authority experience is highly desirable.
7. Confident advocacy skills – ideally capable of handling your own cases.
