Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory duties, supporting staff and providing optimum patient care.
Responsibilities
* Collect blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries and homes of patients as specified by the supervisor.
* Safely dispose of contaminated materials, including sharps.
* Undertake reception duties to welcome and advise patients and staff as required by the supervisor.
* Sort and identify specimens received.
* Prepare samples for testing using separation techniques such as centrifugation and tapping off.
* Track and record samples to ensure that relevant information is available for the supervisor.
* Monitor and replenish medical stock.
* Undertake agreed clinical and non‑clinical tasks following training, ensuring referral to appropriate trained staff as required.
* Support less experienced members of staff in their orientation to the department and role.
* Participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve personal objectives.
* Provide an out‑of‑hours laboratory service as required.
* Assist with the provision of a high‑quality service for staff and patients.
* Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
* Undertake such duties as shall be prescribed by the Deputy Laboratory Manager in accordance with this grade of post.
Requirements
* Immunisation and vaccination report from the applicant’s current UK occupational health provider or GP.
* Flexibility to work shift patterns across seven days, including early, late, weekend, and bank‑holiday shifts.
* Full flexibility across a variety of shifts.
* Not eligible for sponsorship.
