About Us High Line Yachting Ltd has been a trusted name on the inland waterways for over 55 years, established in 1971. We operate three boatyards west of London (Iver, Northolt, and Cowley), providing comprehensive facilities for narrowboats, barges, and other inland vessels. Our services include full engineering workshops, fabrication, welding, repairs, boat sales (in conjunction with Virginia Currer Marine), and more. The Role We are seeking reliable, practical Boatyard Operatives to join our experienced team. This hands-on role involves a mix of outdoor yard work, vessel maintenance, and repairs across mechanical, structural, and cosmetic tasks. Ideal for someone who enjoys varied practical work on inland waterway craft.
Key Responsibilities
* Repair and maintenance of site tools, plant equipment, and vessel electrical/mechanical systems (engines, gearboxes, propulsion, AC-DC etc.)
* Outdoor boatyard duties including hull blacking, pressure washing, anode preparation, and general site maintenance
* Painting and applying marine coatings (preparation, priming, epoxy systems, bitumen spraying/rolling)
* Welding and fabrication work (steel hull/frame repairs, custom fittings – MMA/MIG experience beneficial)
* Plumbing installations and repairs (pipework, bilge systems, water systems, heating systems, pumps, toilets)
* Assisting with vessel lifting, craning, blocking, launching, and movement (using slings, etc.)
* Working safely with hand/power tools, adhering to health & safety standards in an outdoor boatyard setting.
* Supporting the team on customer vessels and yard projects in all weather conditions
Essential Requirements
* Practical experience in some combination of mechanical repair, welding, painting, plumbing, or outdoor/maintenance work
* Physically fit for manual handling, lifting, and outdoor work in all weathers
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work safely with initiative
* Right to work in the UK
* Full UK driving licence (essential for site travel between boatyards)
Desirable (training provided where appropriate)
* Previous experience in boatyards, marinas, narrowboats, or inland waterways craft
* Welding qualifications or coded experience
* Mechanical/engineering background (e.g., plant fitting or marine engines)
* Relevant certifications (e.g., CSCS, RYA, or boat-handling quals)
* Own basic hand tools (specialist equipment provided)
