Sedgemoor Manor School are recruiting for Higher Level Teaching Assistants to join our Education team! We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed HLTA’s, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support learning across all key stages. The successful candidates will work alongside the class teacher and LSA’s, assisting the pupils and young people with their work and supporting with pupil engagement and learning through establishing good relationships, becoming a trusted adult and implementing applicable strategies of the pupil education and health care plan.
Sedgemoor Manor School is very different to most schools, set in a calm idyllic site with several building for our small teaching groups (maximum 6 pupils) to engage and learn. We are almost at capacity with 100 places for pupils in year 3 through to sixth form. Pupils at Sedgemoor are autistic and are being supported in working towards overcoming various challenges. The staff, curriculum, site and experiences here enable them to thrive and achieve excellent accreditation. Many pupils go onto college and university.

Sedgemoor Manor is a specialist day school for young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum/SPLD and are aged between 7 and 19 years. Our tailored approach means we can support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a ‘cycle of failure’ and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a ‘culture of success’. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.
The successful candidate will be able to:
9. Work collaboratively with teachers, adapting and implementing effective strategies to support learning across the curriculum, ensuring progress for all students
10. Lead small group or one-to-one interventions based on the specific needs of students, contributing to raising academic achievement and supporting personal development
11. Collaborate with education and wellbeing teams, taking a proactive role in supporting students’ emotional regulation and engagement, using personalised approaches
12. Maintain positive relationships with students, acting as a role model, and responding to individual needs with empathy and professionalism, fostering a positive learning environment
13. Be an emotionally available adult, providing consistent, compassionate support for children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN).
14. Take responsibility for the planning, delivery, and assessment of interventions, demonstrating an understanding of the broader educational goals and tracking student progress
15. Support the professional development of other staff members, by sharing expertise and mentoring Teaching Assistants as needed
Daily Duties Include:
16. Leading the safety and welfare of students, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for learning and development
17. Supporting and enhancing teaching and learning by adapting strategies, resources, and activities to meet the diverse needs of students across the curriculum
18. Taking a proactive role in supporting students to engage and re-engage in their learning, using targeted interventions and adjusting approaches as needed to maximise student progress
19. Designing and implementing strategies and activities that support students in regulating their emotions, promoting self-control and positive behaviour
20. Supporting the holistic development of students, contributing to their emotional, social, and academic growth by using a well-rounded approach to intervention and support
Key Skills Required:
21. Ability to tailor and lead support for individual students, ensuring that interventions are personalised and effective in supporting both academic progress and emotional wellbeing
22. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to students, teachers, and parents. Competence in using ICT tools for communication and tracking progress
23. Demonstrates advanced emotional availability and resilience, with the ability to support students through challenging situations while maintaining emotional professionalism
24. Experience in leading individual / small group interventions and mentoring others, with the capacity to take on additional responsibilities, such as supporting the development of less experienced teaching staff
25. Proactive and reflective in practice, with a commitment to continuous professional development and a clear understanding of how to improve teaching and learning outcomes for students with a range of special educational needs
