Location: Verwood, Dorset Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: MPS1 (ECT Scale) We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Science Early Career Teacher (ECT) to join a thriving, modern, and student-focused secondary school in Verwood, Dorset. This full-time, permanent position will commence in September 2025 and is perfectly suited to a newly qualified or soon-to-be qualified teacher with a passion for Science, eager to develop their teaching career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment. About the School Situated on the edge of the beautiful New Forest National Park, this growing school prides itself on being at the heart of the local community. The school’s ethos centres around inclusivity, personal development, and academic excellence, making it a truly welcoming and nurturing place for both students and staff. As a progressive school, it places significant emphasis on the holistic development of every pupil, ensuring they leave equipped not only with strong academic knowledge but also with the skills and confidence to thrive in the future. The school leadership team (SLT) is highly experienced and supportive, with a clear vision for continued growth and excellence. Staff wellbeing and professional development are at the core of the school culture, and there is a strong commitment to fostering an environment where early career teachers can flourish. The school offers a robust CPD programme with tailored mentoring, regular coaching sessions, and access to external training and development opportunities. Science Department Science is a flagship subject at this school, regarded as both a vital academic discipline and a gateway to inspiring students about the natural world. The Science Department has recently undergone a significant refurbishment, boasting state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with modern safety equipment, digital interactive whiteboards, and well-designed demonstration areas that enable engaging, hands-on learning experiences. The department is dynamic and collaborative, with a team of passionate specialists in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics who work together to create an enquiry-led and stimulating curriculum. The school actively encourages innovative teaching methods, including practical experiments, use of digital tools, and project-based learning to deepen students’ understanding and foster a love for science. Your Role as Science ECT As a Science ECT, you will have the opportunity to teach Science across Key Stage 3, providing a broad and balanced foundation in the subject. At Key Stage 4, you will specialise in your chosen Science discipline—whether that is Biology, Chemistry, or Physics—delivering lessons that prepare students thoroughly for their GCSE examinations. Your role will extend beyond the classroom, offering you the chance to engage in extracurricular activities such as science clubs, STEM competitions, and community outreach events. You will also have the opportunity to support targeted intervention groups to help students who need additional guidance, and to contribute to preparation sessions for A-Level Science courses, working closely with the senior science staff. The school’s comprehensive ECT programme is designed to support your professional journey, providing weekly mentoring and coaching sessions tailored to your needs, alongside structured CPD workshops that cover pedagogy, behaviour management, and curriculum development. What We’re Looking For in Our Ideal Candidate We are seeking a Science graduate who is completing or has recently completed their teacher training and will have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by July 2025. You should have a genuine passion for science education and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, practical, and inspiring lessons. Clear communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and the wider school community. We want someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, who can contribute to the supportive team ethos and who has a strong interest in developing creative and interactive teaching approaches. Why Join This School? * Join a forward-thinking school with a strong commitment to ECT development and wellbeing * Work in a well-resourced and recently upgraded Science department with cutting-edge facilities * Benefit from a dedicated induction and mentoring programme tailored to your needs * Teach motivated and engaged students who are eager to learn and explore scientific concepts * Contribute to the wider school community through clubs, events, and extracurricular activities * Enjoy the beautiful setting of Verwood, close to the New Forest and with excellent transport links to Bournemouth, Southampton, and surrounding areas This is a unique chance to begin your teaching career in a school that truly values its staff and puts the student experience at the heart of everything it does.
