Discover a new kind of career in healthcare as a functional specialist
Are you working in healthcare, and looking for a change? If you’re a nurse (RGN, RMN or RNLD), occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or paramedic, you could use your skills differently as a functional specialist.
Their functional specialists write reports which help the Department for Communities (DfC) make important decisions about a person’s health and care.
Day to Day
You will be conducting initial reviews, paper-based, face-to-face, video, or telephone assessments to evaluate how a claimant’s health condition or disability affects their daily life.
Our client's hybrid model means you’ll be based at home and assigned to work from your nearest assessment centre on a rota basis to deliver face-to-face assessments. You’ll also spend time in our centres or office locations to catch up with your manager and team or attend training sessions.
To create the report, you will observe and report on an individual’s ability to carry out activities, analyzing and interpreting clinical information and supporting evidence. You will produce three comprehensive reports of 3,000-4,000 words each day, based on the evidence gathered for each claimant. You will be trained to ensure your reports provide detailed, evidenced, and justified information to support the DWP in decision-making.
Our Offer
This challenging role differs from other healthcare professions, and our client values your training and development. You’ll start with a 6-week training program (Monday to Friday, 9 am-5 pm), with time allocated for self-development learning.
The first six months can be demanding, but you will receive support and mentorship to aid your ongoing development.
* The role offers a competitive basic salary of £38,500, with potential to increase to £39,900 based on performance.
Your requirements
* One year's post-registration experience as a nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or paramedic.
* Fully registered with a relevant UK regulatory body (NMC, HCPC, or others), with no restrictions or conditions, and a valid PIN.
* Excellent observational and communication skills, with the ability to listen, empathize, and probe deeper.
* The ability to type at a minimum of 30 words per minute.
* Proven experience with IT and Microsoft Office, including remote system access such as MS Teams.
