Marketing Officer (Sports and Leisure)
12‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract, 37 hours per week
Location: Chelmsford, United Kingdom (Hybrid). Compensation: £32,376 to £35,196 per annum.
Overview
Chelmsford City Council offers a strategic marketing opportunity working closely with our four leisure centres, focusing on health, wellbeing, fitness and sport. This role delivers data‑led, income‑generating campaigns that drive reach, engagement and conversions for memberships, courses and activities across all our leisure sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, execute and optimise marketing campaigns across multiple channels (social media, email, web/online, Meta Ads, Google Ads) with tight deadlines.
* Measure campaign performance using analytics tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite) and segmentation strategies to meet commercial and community targets.
* Write report summaries and present findings to stakeholders.
* Produce engaging film content – film events, conduct interviews, edit footage – using mobile phones and other devices.
* Apply best practices in design, copywriting, SEO, usability, and usability testing.
* Ensure GDPR compliance and accessibility standards are followed in all marketing materials.
* Collaborate cross‑functionally with leisure centres and adapt to ad‑hoc requests and changing priorities.
* Occasionally work evenings or weekends in support of events.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven success delivering business‑focused digital marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
* Strong copy‑writing, design, SEO and usability skills, with experience in testing.
* Experience filming, interviewing and editing video content.
* Familiarity with analytics platforms, segmentation, and data‑driven decision making.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail.
* Positive, proactive, collaborative mindset and ability to adapt to changing trends.
Additional Information
* Contract: 12‑month fixed‑term to cover maternity leave.
* Employment type: Full‑time, 37 hours per week, hybrid working across Civic Centre and four leisure centres.
