Pharmacy Assistant, Distribution & Stores (ATO), Band 2 (30 hours a week)
Undertake general pharmaceutical duties under the supervision of a section manager or deputy, assisting in the provision of a safe and effective pharmacy service in line with current policies, procedures and legal requirements.
Undertake daily stock maintenance activities inn partnership with senior assistant technicians and under the supervision of a section manager or deputy, assisting in the provision of accurate stock balances and ensuring expiry date checks are completed in line with current policies, procedures and legal requirements.
Work within pharmacy Distribution & Stores ensuring all wards and departments receive regular supplies of stock medicines and assist in day to day running of the pharmacy stores.
Daily visits to ward areas within the hospital to complete a stock top-up service.
Additional working pattern details: 09:00-17:30
Main duties of the job
Distribution & Stock Management
Carry out ward top-ups by checking stock levels against set lists, monitoring expiry dates, re-ordering medicines, liaising with ward staff, and returning unwanted items to Pharmacy for credit or disposal. Perform daily stock checks, investigate discrepancies, and escalate issues to senior staff. Support monthly expiry checks of the robotic system.
Supply of Medicines
Enter ward orders into the computer system, generate picking lists, assemble and check orders, and prepare TTO packs in line with worksheets. Coordinate with porters to meet delivery and transport deadlines. Ensure external customer orders follow Good Distribution Practice.
Process returned ward boxes, assess items for reuse/credit, dispose of unsuitable medicines, and arrange waste collection.
Receive, check, and record deliveries manually or via automated systems. Store items correctly, restock shelves, and assemble IV fluid boxes (manual handling involved). Manage incoming calls for stock orders, transcribe fluid requests, and book out supplies. Perform additional duties as directed by senior pharmacy staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Good level of literacy and numeracy
* Entry Level qualification in principles of stock management (eg. NVQ or Buttercups) or equivalent or willing to work towards qualification if required
Knowledge And Skills
* Ability to use computer, basic skills to operate Pharmacy Systems
* Recent experience of implementing change or quality improvement.
