Employee Relations Advisor – Pinsent Masons
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Employee Relations
* Become a trusted advisor on a variety of employee relations issues including performance, disciplinary, grievance, absence and flexible working for the HRBP team and line managers.
* Provide consistent and commercially focused advice to the HRBP team around ER issues, including outlining and quantifying risks.
* Conduct thorough and objective investigations into ER issues, gathering relevant information and conducting interviews as necessary.
* Attend as HR representative at formal meetings (disciplinary, grievance and appeal hearings) ensuring fairness at all times.
* Produce accurate correspondence on ER matters such as scripts, emails and formal communications including invites and outcome letters.
* Support line managers and HRBPs in managing complex and long‑term absence related cases.
* Provide objective feedback for future learning within the HRBP team and the wider firm.
* Liaise with the Employee Relations Manager for support on senior or complex ER issues.
* Support the business and HRBPs in implementing change programmes, including restructures, ensuring integrity and minimal disruption.
Case Management
* Manage a variety of cases from inception to completion, providing guidance to HR colleagues and line managers.
* Maintain oversight of the firm’s case management system to ensure timely and thorough case handling and to identify and raise concerns.
* Use the system for reporting purposes and analyze data to identify themes and trends.
* Coordinate with the Employee Relations Manager, the General Counsel’s Office and external employment lawyers for more complex cases.
* Assist with the management of employment tribunal claims.
Policy & Project Work
* Assist in the regular review and updating of firm‑wide policies to ensure legal compliance and improvement of working practices.
* Collaborate with relevant teams on the implementation of new policies and the driving of related initiatives.
* Support wider HR project work as required and relevant to the role.
Documentation
* Work with the HRBP team and Projects HR Manager to keep ER policies, processes and precedents relevant to changing business needs.
* Ensure all ER letter templates, wider HR templates and associated documentation are kept up‑to‑date and centrally available for the wider team.
* Provide assistance in interpreting contract terms of employment and offering guidance.
* Review and update relevant guides and toolkits for the HRBP team on ER matters.
Learning & Development
* Interpret changing UK employment legislation and provide updates and information to the HR team as appropriate.
* Offer coaching, training and upskilling to the wider HR team and line managers.
* Identify relevant e‑learning, review it, and create new content for the audience and platform.
Relevant Experience
* Demonstrable experience in an ER advisory capacity, including employment tribunal experience, complex case work, disability and mental health cases.
* In‑depth knowledge of employment law, regulations and HR policies and practices.
* Experience working in professional services firms with complex matrix structures.
* Mediation experience desirable.
