Arare opportunity has arisen within the division of surgery for a hour Band7 Ward Manager at Sunderland eye Infirmary.Haygarth ward manager has 24/7 responsibility for an 18 bedded Adult and4 bedded Paediatric ward. Ward staffalso provide Adult and Paediatric Pre-Operative assessment clinicsMonday-Friday. Staff care for both Emergency and Elective Medical and Surgicalpatients.
Main duties of the job
You will beresponsible for a team of around 25 staff who rotate to ensure a 24 hour 7 daya week service. Ward Manager Shifts also cover the out of hours senior nurse rolein the absence of the directorate Matron, this will include working weekendsand bank holidays.
Goodcommunication and organisational skills are essential for this role.
It will be yourresponsibility to ensure all staff maintain the skills and knowledge requiredto provide a high standard of patient care
Weare looking for a highly motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic Registered AdultNurse who has extensive post registration experience, some of which will be atband 6 level within Ophthalmology. The successful candidate will have theexciting opportunity in the future to manage the purpose-built Inpatient ward,Ambulatory care and DOSA/Inpatient ward Pre-assessment department in the new state-of-the-art Sunderland Eye Hospitalsituated in Sunderland city centre which is expected to open in 2025.

Job responsibilities
The Ward/Department Manager has 24 hour accountability for patient safety and patient experience on their ward/department, including line management of their staff.
1. They must deliver high quality nursing care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to provide the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
2. They will act as a champion for professional accountability and standards, ensuring that professional practices are in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and Trust Policy.
3. Ensure environmental standards and cleanliness of the ward/department are maintained in line with Trust and National standards.
4. Effectively manage the ward/department nursing resource, ensuring that staff rotas are able to deliver safe and effective patient care.
5. Support and contribute to the development of patient care and nursing practice within the Directorate. Supervising junior staff. Contribute to Trust wide projects as required.
6. Ensure effective line management of staff and ensure they are supported in performing to their full potential. Ensure junior staff have appropriate support and supervision and are appropriately assessed.
