The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified academic colleagues who work at Lancaster University for the post of Director of Research Culture (university wide). This fixed-term post is designed to complement existing Faculty Associate Dean (Research) and university level research-related roles. You will report directly to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise).
The Director will be responsible for further developing the University’s research culture strategy and leading the implementation of the research (excellence) culture action plan, working with and across all faculties and institutes. You will be expected to inspire and engage existing staff teams and potential external partners by clearly articulating both vision and strategy, building meaningful networks, both internally and externally. You will work to maximise research potential and to enhance Lancaster University’s reputation and support the PVC (Research and Enterprise) in ensuring a strong institutional submission to REF2029 (and future research assessments) in this area.
Key relationships include working alongside the four Faculty Associate Deans for Research, Head of Research Quality and Policy, Research Culture Manager and other colleagues in Research and Enterprise Services (RES) who will provide operational support.
You should be research active and have experience of operating strategically in an academic leadership role, potentially a Professorial role. They should have an in-depth understanding of what constitutes the highest quality research culture and experience of research culture development activity in some capacity for the improvement of research excellence.
This post is part-time (0.25FTE) tenable from October 2025 and held for an initial period to 31 July 2029 (subject to confirmation of funding). The Department from which the successful candidate comes from will receive a fees allocation proportionate to the FTE commitment for the period that the post is held.
