As a Driver Trainer you will have a passion for mentoring others and play a central role in the development and assessment of new and existing drivers showcasing the company’s high standards of professionalism and meeting the companies service levels to their customers. The role will have accountability for creating a positive culture ensuring our customers experience the very best impression of our delivery and customer service. The Driver Trainer will ultimately be an Ambassador for the Transport department and promote excellent standards of safety and compliance.
Responsibilities will include:
* Carry out driving assessments as part of the recruitment process, conduct a thorough induction for new staff
* Plan and review new driver training covering site introduction, routes, SSOW, Tacho procedures, defect reporting and walk around checks.
* Update and brief SSOW processes and associated documents to drivers
* Perform annual in cab assessments
* Deliver DVC training and slow manoeuvring course as directed
* Carries out annual refresher training for Tachographs, Defect reporting and walk round checks
* Carries out specific Tacho training with drivers who have infringed as agreed with site
* Carries out safe systems training with drivers/loaders to include loading, deliveries, refuelling, use of tail lifts etc
* Assists the department in carrying out new customer delivery point risk assessments and reports back on any issues. Also undertake all risk assessments in relation to vehicles
* In conjunction with site management identifies training and development needs within agreed transport areas and agrees subsequent action plan
* Coaching individuals within the team maximising their effectiveness
* Foster a spirit of CI within the Transport team/Company. Encourage the team to identify issues and involve them in developing solutions to address them and be involved and lead project related activities
* Actively monitor customer service levels and implement performance improvement actions
* Play a leading role in operational audits supporting O licence compliance as well as ensuring site compliance
* Deliver all aspects of training to drivers which will ideally include Driver CPC
The successful candidate will have:
* Excellent standard of Driver performance, at least 5 years as a HGV driver
* Proficient using Word, Excel and Power point applications. With experience of producing clear, accurate and concise written reports
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively
* Strong understanding of current transport legislation and EU/WTD regulations
* Able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the role
* Confident manner and personable’ Articulate, able to present ideas clearly with enthusiasm
* Ability to influence whilst leading by example
* Strategic thinker, with an ability to deliver and support projects
* Desirable to previous experience of Driver Training, hold a relevant qualification, approved assessor, Driving Instructor
* Knowledge and experience of O Licence compliance
* Holds a minimum Category C Driving Licence
* Desirable to hold a Driver CPC
