About the job
The SAS Viya Platform teamis looking for a Sr Software Developer to lead the design and development of core compute capabilities that drive our next-generation analytic engine, with a strong focus on AI-driven innovation and cloud-native architecture. As part of a fast-moving rapid response team, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-impact features and resolving complex issues that enhance the performance, scalability, and reliability of our platform.
You’ll collaborate with a global team of highly skilled engineers, bringing diverse technical perspectives to some of the most foundational challenges in modern analytics. You’ll also have the opportunity to influence architectural direction, mentor other developers, and help shape enterprise-class software used by organizations around the world.
As a Sr Software Developer, you will:
1. Lead the design and development of high-quality, testable, and scalable software solutions using C and Golang in Linux and/or Windows environments.
2. Architect and guide the implementation of complex systems, ensuring alignment with engineering best practices, security standards, and performance goals.
3. Drive scoping, planning, and tracking efforts for sophisticated software development projects within a continuous delivery environment.
4. Lead technical reviews and provide mentorship in design, coding, and documentation, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
5. Maintain accountability for the full software lifecycle—including architecture, implementation, quality, and post-release technical support.
6. Collaborate with teams across SAS to push boundaries in cloud-native analytics and AI-integrated solutions.
7. Set direction on emerging technologies and contribute to the evolution of SAS's Compute Engine and next-generation analytics infrastructure.
8. Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization’s secure software development goals.
Required Qualifications
9. 8+ years of software development experience in C/Golang, with a proven track record of leading complex projects.
10. Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Statistics, Math, or a related discipline
11. Expert-level computer programming skills with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
12. Extensive experience with CI/CD pipeline and associated tools like Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, GitHub, etc.
13. Proven ability to architect and implement portable code/testing for multiple hosts like Windows and Unix.
14. Demonstrated expertise in understanding and designing complex logic / architecture between clients / servers.
15. Ability to quickly assimilate technical material and handle deadlines in a multiple task environment.
16. Extensive experience with SAS programming.
17. In-depth knowledge of cloud technologies and providers - Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, GCP, OpenShift.
18. Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to guide and develop team members.Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
21. Software development experience in any of the following: Golang, Java, Python, Rust, Shell Scripts, etc.
22. Extensive experience programming in a threaded kernel environment (TK/MVA -- Multi Vendor Architecture).
23. Advanced knowledge of SAS programming.
24. Expert-level understanding of cyber security in cloud computing/Kubernetes.
25. In-depth knowledge about programming for sockets, ciphers, authentication methods.
26. Advanced proficiency with Linux.
27. Experience in leading architectural decisions for large-scale software systems.
