About the role
North Northamptonshire Council is on track to deliver its technology transformation, with a major focus on our M365 environment. We are seeking a dedicated individual to lead the development of skillsets necessary to maximize the value of our M365 investment. The role involves supporting the evolution of the platform, managing several projects alongside Microsoft and partners, and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the tenant.
The position includes practical management of the M365 platform, such as creating application policies, ensuring environment security, managing authentication services, and promoting platform adoption. The candidate will become a subject matter expert on M365 products (including Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, Entra) and collaborate with technical teams to ensure smooth and secure service delivery. Working closely with Microsoft and third-party vendors, the role aims to drive innovation and maximize organizational benefits from the M365 platform.
What will you be doing?
Here’s more detail on potential responsibilities:
* Serve as a hands-on escalation point (3rd-line support) for M365-related user incidents.
* Design and support SharePoint/Teams solutions aligned with business objectives for file storage and collaboration.
* Participate in project teams to deliver M365 integrations and services supporting project goals.
* Collaborate with infrastructure and service teams to maintain a secure, monitored M365 environment following Microsoft best practices.
* Define and implement application, security, and monitoring policies in line with best practices.
* Work with solution architects to ensure technical designs adhere to best practices, especially regarding authentication and data sharing.
* Promote the M365 platform and identify opportunities to generate additional value from the investment.
About you
We seek a candidate with a strong technical support background, either currently functioning as or aspiring to become an M365 specialist. The ability to collaborate effectively and work directly with end-users at all levels is essential to drive adoption and develop solutions that meet their needs. A keen willingness to learn and maximize the platform's value for colleagues and residents is highly desirable.
Minimum requirements include:
* At least 2 years’ experience supporting Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment.
* Demonstrable knowledge of M365 and Microsoft Power Platform.
* Significant experience supporting Teams and SharePoint for collaboration and data sharing.
* Experience in both project-based and user support environments.
* Experience in a fast-paced service desk setting.
* Knowledge of ITIL processes related to change and incident management.
Additional valuable experience or qualifications include:
* Experience in a dedicated M365 support team.
* Involvement in projects related to enterprise Teams/SharePoint structures and migrations.
* Knowledge of the M365 Power Platform.
* Experience managing M365 data governance controls such as data loss prevention, sensitivity labels, and conditional access.
