What Youll Do
As an Applications Engineer, your role spans technical proposal development, cost estimation, client support, and internal coordination ensuring that every solution presented is technically sound, commercially competitive, and fully aligned with client needs.
Proposal Development for Flare and Combustion Systems
Create detailed technical and commercial proposals for:
Flare systems
Thermal oxidisers
Burners and fired equipment
Analyse client specifications and process data to define project scope and recommend appropriate technologies
Ensure that solutions comply with environmental regulations and performance expectations
Evaluate system configurations, layouts, and integration requirements
Cost Estimation and Bid Preparation
Produce accurate and competitive cost estimates using supplier input, in-house data, and engineering insight
Work cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, and fabrication teams to finalise timelines and deliverables
Deliver full proposal packages, including:
System descriptions
Technical specifications and datasheets
Pricing breakdowns and commercial terms
Identify potential risks in scope, supply chain, or compliance and propose mitigation measures
Client Engagement and Technical Support
Act as the primary technical contact during the bid phase
Respond clearly and promptly to client queries, both technical and commercial
Attend proposal meetings (in person or remotely) to:
Present proposals
Clarify specifications
Support negotiations
Build trusted relationships with client-side engineers, procurement teams, and project managers
Undertake site visits where required to support pre-bid assessments and technical discussions
Internal Coordination and Project Handover
Collaborate with in-house controls, electrical, and mechanical teams to align on deliverables and feasibility
Ensure proposals are practical, buildable, and fully supported by internal capability
Prepare comprehensive handover packs for project execution teams, including:
Design assumptions
Technical documents
Client expectations and notes
Maintain clear proposal records to support future reviews and lessons learned
Commercial Awareness and Process Improvement
Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and regulatory developments to inform proposal strategy
Contribute to the improvement of internal proposal tools, templates, and costing systems
Participate in bid reviews and internal feedback sessions to drive quality and standardisation
What Were Looking For
Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline (or equivalent hands-on technical experience)
25 years experience in flare systems, fired equipment, or combustion-related proposals
Solid understanding of combustion technology and environmental compliance
Proven experience in developing and delivering technical and commercial proposals
Confident in pricing strategy, risk identification, and client communication
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable leading discussions with clients, engineers, and internal stakeholders
Desirable:
Practical field experience with flare or fired combustion equipment
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and CRM or proposal software
Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites or facilities
