Legal Services Assistant

We are seeking a highly organised individual to join our Legal Services team. In this vital role, you will support the Legal Services Director in ensuring compliance with legislation and court deadlines, while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality.

About You

* A-level or equivalent education
* NVQ Level 4 or relevant experience
* Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, email, databases)
* Clear communicator and team player


Main duties of the job

You will report to the Paralegal, and your responsibilities will include:

* Provide independent administrative support to the Legal Services Director
* Minute meetings, manage diaries, and handle incoming/outgoing correspondence
* Liaise with external bodies including NHS Resolution, Coroners, Local Authorities, and barristers\' chambers
* Facilitate and process disclosure requests for civil and criminal matters, ensuring accurate logging and tracking
* Review and redact documentation for disclosure in line with legal and confidentiality requirements
* Prepare and check legal documents with precision and attention to detail

Person Specification


Qualification and Training

* A level standard of education
* Computer systems training, including Microsoft Office, email and database systems, or equivalent skills gained through experience
* Evidence of ongoing professional training
* Legal training


Experience

* PA/Secretarial experience or experience of working in an administrative function
* Experience of working with others to ensure information is provided on time and accurately
* Arranging meetings, minuting meetings and diary management
* Experience within a healthcare setting
* Experience within a legal setting
* Organising events
* Experience as paralegal


Knowledge and Skills

* Good working knowledge of legal systems and processes
* Data Protection Act
* Access to Health Records Act
* Freedom of Information Act
* Excellent organisational skills
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Ability to work under pressure
* Ability to work on own initiative and within a team
* Maintaining strict confidentiality
* Ability to meet challenging deadlines
* Judgement skills to know when to escalate issues
* Understanding of NHS
* Understanding of legal processes
