Job Description:
Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Autism Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive and experienced team at one of our partnership schools in Newport and Cwmbran. The role involves working in a Learning Resource Base (LRB) supporting pupils with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and some challenging behaviours.
This is a full-time opportunity starting in May 2025, ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
Key Responsibilities:
Support a small class of 10 pupils with severe ASD and behavioural needs.
Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
Provide social and emotional support, helping children grow and achieve their potential.
Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other teaching assistants.
Implement personalised strategies to manage challenging behaviour.
Follow all school safeguarding and child protection policies.
Requirements:
Must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
Hold or be willing to obtain a Child-Only DBS certificate (Teaching Personnel can assist).
Provide two professional references covering the last 24 months.
Be resilient, patient, and confident when supporting pupils with behavioural challenges.
Desirable but not essential:
Prior experience working with children with SEN, ASD, or ALN.
Personal experience with autism or learning disabilities is welcomed.
