Children in Our Care (CIOC) Social Worker - Blackburn with Darwen Children's Services
About the Role
Blackburn with Darwen Children's Services, rated Good in their recent ILCAS inspection, is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their Children in Our Care (CIOC) team.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in CIOC work, safeguarding, and care proceedings. You will provide high-quality social work practice, including assessments, care and pathway planning, permanency planning, and statutory reviews, ensuring the child's voice is central to all decisions.
You will receive full management support, with an open-door policy to senior managers, regular supervision, and opportunities for professional development.
Key Responsibilities
As a CIOC Social Worker, you will:
Undertake child and family assessments in partnership with children, parents/carers, and multi-agency teams, ensuring risk is assessed appropriately.
Produce outcome-focused Care Plans and Pathway Plans, promoting permanence and safeguarding.
Ensure children's views and participation are embedded in all plans, assessments, and reviews.
Provide support, guidance, and advice to children, young people, families, and carers, reassessing needs as required.
Promote the welfare and safety of children in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation.
Participate in permanency planning and ensure children's holistic needs are met in long-term placements.
Collaborate with multi-agency partners, including foster carers, health services, CAMHS, education, regional adoption agencies, and independent reviewing officers.
Work in line with national and local policies, statutory guidance, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate case records and IT systems, ensuring timely and up-to-date documentation.
Commit to professional development, reflective supervision, and contributing to the development of others.
Participate in working groups, focus groups, and service improvement initiatives to enhance practice quality.
Uphold the Council's vision, values, diversity, health and safety policies, and strategic objectives.
Essential Requirements
Recognised Social Work qualification (Degree or equivalent).
Social Work England registration (current and active).
Experience in Children in Our Care (CIOC) work, care proceedings, and safeguarding.
Strong assessment, care planning, and statutory visit skills.
Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-agency environment.
