Main duties of the job
This salaried GP position involves 6-8 sessions per week, with no weekend or extended hours. You will work autonomously while contributing as part of a collaborative, supportive clinical team.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing high-quality medical services under the PMS contract
* Assessing and treating a broad range of medical conditions
* Participating in signposting, clinical supervision, and triage systems
* Managing referrals, prescriptions, and administrative tasks
* Attending and contributing to clinical meetings and audits
* Supporting training for students and GP trainees
* Engaging with PCN and NHS initiatives to improve care
* Maintaining accurate records on SystmOne
* Undertaking occasional home or care home visits

We are a Dispensing Practice serving a population of 9,450 patients, operating primarily from Leiston Surgery with a branch in Yoxford.
We use TPP SystmOne, AccuRx, DXS, and Anima Triage, with full training provided as needed. We hold regular educational sessions for all clinicians and enjoy excellent collaboration with community teams and an active Patient Participation Group (PPG).
We are a teaching practice with 2 GP trainers and offer strong career development opportunities, including teaching undergraduates from UEA and Cambridge University, and supporting international post-graduate training as a certified training practice.
Job responsibilities
To support the GP Partners to manage a busycaseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting,ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporarypatients. Youwill also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas andassist in developing healthcare services.
Youwill be responsible for the provision of medical services to the practicepopulation, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complyingwith the Leiston Surgery policies and protocols. Furthermore, the post-holderwill adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to theeffective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining apositive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinaryteam.
Tofacilitate the development of the role, the practice and the individual, allpersonnel should be prepared to accept additional, or surrender existingduties, to enable the efficient running of the practice.
Dutiesand Responsibilities of the Post:
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP. There may be onoccasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent uponfactors such as workload and staffing levels:
ClinicalResponsibilities:
In accordance with thesurgery timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself availableto undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephoneconsultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signingrepeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence ina timely fashion.
Making professional,autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referredor referred from other health care workers within the organisation
Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
Screening patients fordisease risk factors and early signs of illness
In consultation with patients and inline with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plansfor health
Processing of administration in a timelymanner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associatedadministrative tasks
Providing counselling andhealth education
Admitting ordischarging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other careproviders as appropriate
Recording clear andcontemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards on SystmOne.
Collecting/entering/codingdata for audit purposes, for example practice QOF codes
Compiling and issuingcomputer generated acute and repeat prescriptions avoiding hand writtenprescriptions whenever possible)
Prescribing inaccordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) wheneverthis is clinically appropriate
In general, the postholder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilitiesassociated with a GP working within primary care
On a rotational basis, undertake theduty doctor role.
Encourage collaborative working,liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuousimprovement at all times
Attend and contribute effectively topractice meetings as required
Support the partners in achieving thestrategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income andreduce expenditure

Contribute to thetraining of registrars and medical students
Participate in thereview of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and inclusion on the National Performers List.
* Right to work in the UK and eligibility to practice independently.
* A Newly Qualified GP having obtained your Certificate of
* Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice within the last two
* years, verifying completion of the postgraduate training required to
* practice independently.
* Commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
* Strong communication and IT skills.
* Experience with SystmOne, QOF, audits, and medicines management.
* Interest in training, mentoring, and quality improvement initiatives.
