Job overview

The gynaecology outpatient centre offers care topatients with complex women’s health issues from a wide ranging patient demographic. The department runs clinics covering different gynaecology needs (fertility/general/oncology/urogynaecology, early pregnancy), with over 10 consultants and specialist nurses, requiring an ability to be able to understand the differing clinical needs for each clinic & work to clearly defined policies and procedures.

Post holders will be expected to undertake training to ensure a basic knowledge or level of competence to be able to assist in the various procedures that are carried out within the different gynaecological clinics. They will be expected to provide an effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with ‘The Code’ to women with gynaecological problems in the outpatient setting.

The post holder will be a registered nurse with the expertise and skills to be able to assess, plan and implement individual patient’s care; being accountable for their own actions. It requires highly developed communication and negotiation skills with the ability to liaise between primary and secondary care to ensure patients receive continuity in care. You will also be able to communicate sensitive and complex information to both patients and their carers or families.

Post holders will ensure that patient flow is optimised throughout the department and continue to monitor and improve this by taking part in evaluating processes & systems.

Main duties of the job

To ensure a smooth running of the gynaecology outpatient centre, assisting doctors and specialist nurses whilst seeing patients.

Taking telephone calls and advising patients as needed.

Participating in essential audits.

Ensuring equipment is in full working order and stock available.

Reporting issues to senior nurse.

Mentoring junior colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communication

·Interact with patients, visitors and colleagues in a professional manner at all times.

·Report / action any accidents, incidents or undue occurrences reported or witnessed.

·Ensure the provision of clear and appropriate verbal and written communication with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team at all times.

·Uses skills to overcome communication barriers to act as the patients advocate supporting their decisions this can include patients with learning disabilities, mental health needs or if patient requires an interpreter

·Liaise with the Gynaecology management team as appropriate.

·Contribute positively to the effectiveness, safety and efficiency of the team.

·Act as a role model adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.

·Supports clinics and advocates for patients.

·Participates in gynaecology ward rounds, discharge planning and other multidisciplinary team meetings and ward team meetings

·Provides accurate and contemporaneous documentation of patient care in accordance with UHSussex and national policies

·Builds effective relationship with patients’ relatives and carers and other members of the nursing and multi-disciplinary team

·Makes and receives telephone calls with due courtesy, effectively imparting and recording information taking into account confidentiality, Caldicott and Data Protection

·Handles complaints and plaudits in a professional manner and in accordance with Trust policy

·Liaises with the ward manager, senior nurse and colleagues regarding any issues/areas of concern

·Demonstrate kindness and compassion by being non-judgmental; treating all staff equally; being honest and giving timely and constructive feedback

Service Delivery and Improvement

·To ensure infection control procedures and cleanliness are performed in line with Trust policies and procedures.

·Ensure the health, safety and welfare of the department staff, taking action where necessary and report issues of concern to the senior staff nurse.

·Initiate repair / maintenance requisitions as required.

·Understand and implement the Trusts policies as appropriate for the clinic setting.

·Be aware of and work in accordance with the Trust policies, procedures, standards and embrace the Trusts Vision ‘We Care’ in the clinic environment.

·Maintain awareness of professional and organisational developments.

·Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained within the department.

·Ensure appropriate use of all Trust resources at all times.

·Attend and participate in regular departmental meetings.

·Actively participate in clinical audit and research as required.
