Laboratory Technician in Cellular Neuroscience

£27, per annum (pro rata)

Full time (37 hours)

Fixed-term contract - 20 months

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated technician to join our team to support research on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cognitive decline in physiological ageing.

The team is led by DrMartina Gabrielli, PhD (here is her profile including a list of publications). Her research funded by a BBSRC Fellowship focuses on extracellular vesicles (EVs) - tiny cellderived particles that mediate molecular communication between cells and their roles in brain ageing. The study includes the analysis of EVs isolated from post-mortem human brain tissues through next-generation technologies and the evaluation of their effects on human iPSC-derived neurons and a humanized 3D brain-on-chip model.

The technician joining the team will provide essential technical support and specialistic skills in:

* iPSC culturing and their differentiation into brain cells
* biochemical profiling of EV samples

Depending on their experience and motivation, they may also contribute to additional aspects of the research project.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate medium to extensive experience in one or more of the following areas:

* Cell line and/or primary cell culturing in a sterile environment
* Brain cell culturing, particularly neuronal cultures
* Human iPSC culture and differentiation (e.g. differentiation into neurons)
* Biochemical and cell biology techniques, such as Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, and/or microscopy

Appropriate training will be provided. However, to be effective in this role we are seeking individuals with a BSc in a relevant area, including Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Chemistry.

The team offers excellent opportunities for expanding technical skills and pursuing career development. As part of a wider research group investigating EVs in the brain and other systems (EX-CELL) and actively engaged in a broader network studying dementia (ADP network) within the vibrant scientific community at Clifton Campus. You'll be fully embedded in a supportive and stimulating research culture.

Contract duration: Full time/37 hours - 20 months

Starting date: April 2026
