Working hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8.15am - 3.30pm with half an hour for lunch, Wednesday either 8am - 4.05pm or 8.15am - 4.20pm with half an hour for lunch and one Saturday every 7 weeks from 8.50am - 11.50am.
Contract type: Permanent, Full Time.
Working style: Onsite – Employees carry out their job primarily from a physical workplace, such as an office.
Additional payments: Payment for additional out of hours ceremonies on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays (maximum of 8 sessions per year).

Role Overview
Manchester Register Office is currently seeking a Registration Officer. Previous experience of working within civil registration in this country is desirable, however not essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Register births, deaths, stillbirths, marriages and civil partnerships, and facilitate Citizenship Ceremonies.
* Locate and issue historic certificates and provide clear, comprehensible advice and assistance to residents.
* Work across the city at Surestart centres, licensed wedding and civil partnership venues, and varied religious premises, with transport provided where required.
* Conduct the full range of different ceremonies offered by Manchester Register Office.
* Work Monday to Friday and one Saturday every 7 weeks in the Register Office, plus a maximum of 8 additional shifts on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays to cover ceremonies at various venues.
Qualifications and Skills
* Enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a keen eye for detail and a very strong customer focus.
* Ability to work flexibly and be responsive to the demands and priorities of a fast‑paced service.
* Exceptional people skills, tact and emotional intelligence required when dealing with people at times of tremendous emotion.
* Experience of cash handling or financial reconciliation.
* Proven communication and customer care skills of the highest order.
Restrictions
* Undischarged bankrupt or under a Debt Relief Order.
* Subject of a debt relief restrictions order or an interim debt relief restrictions order.
* Member of a council or a council committee that handles appointment of registration officers within 12 months before appointment.
* An officer or servant, other than the clerk or deputy clerk, of a local authority employed in the performance of duties relating to burial authority.
* A person holding office as an authorised person is also a secretary (for marriages) of a synagogue or a registering officer of the Society of Friends.
* Candidate cannot hold office if they work as a minister, doctor, midwife, undertaker, or in a burial or cremation business. This also applies to those in life insurance or other conflicting jobs.
* As superintendent registrar, if holding office as a registrar.
* As registrar, if holding office as a superintendent registrar or is a coroner.
Screening and Checks
* Legal right to work: evidence required before commencement of employment.
* 2 references required, ideally with 3 years history.
* BPSS clearance: baseline personnel security standard clearance required; consent to and comply with BPSS checks prior to commencement.
