My client is a thriving, privately owned civil engineering and utilities group based in Tipton, operating for over 40 years and comprising multiple businesses across civil engineering, multi-utilities, groundworks, and traffic management. Following a period of continued growth and diversification, they are now seeking a confident and experienced Payroll Officer to join their busy head office function.
The Role
Working as part of a small payroll team, youll support the Payroll Supervisor to deliver accurate and timely end-to-end weekly and monthly payroll for approximately 600 staff. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role requiring experience with SAGE 50 Payroll, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to deal with payroll queries and departmental requests.
Key Responsibilities:
Process weekly timesheets submitted through internal systems
Manage the payroll inbox in line with agreed SLAs
Prepare and run end-to-end weekly and monthly payroll
Generate and distribute payroll reports
Raise invoices for PPE, training, PCNs and damages via SAGE
Submit RTI, FPS and EPS returns to HMRC and ensure timely employee payments
Export and submit BACS files for payment processing
Manage pension scheme enrolments and deductions
Support year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds
Liaise with HR on employee changes and exit documentation
Ensure accurate final pay for leavers
Assist with payroll-related projects and process improvements
What Were Looking For:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a payroll role
At least 2 years' experience using SAGE 50 Payroll (essential)
Experience with SAGE 200 or SAGE Accounts is advantageous
Excellent administrative and organisational skills
High level of attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to liaise across departments
Discreet and professional when handling confidential data
Proactive, solution-focused, and adaptable in a high-volume environment
