Overview
GTC, part of the BUUK Infrastructure Group, is seeking a Design Engineer – Contestable (GTC) to support the company’s mission to accelerate the UK towards net zero by delivering reliable and efficient utility services for new housing, mixed‑use, and industrial/commercial projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Liaise with clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
* Complete design work in line with client specifications and GTC/DNO/Industry standards.
* Attend meetings with clients, network operators, and other stakeholders as required.
* Ensure compliance with NRSWA procedures.
* Collaborate with other BUUK departments and external partners to ensure safe and efficient project construction.
* Conduct technical and safety audits as required.
* Assist in maintaining GTC’s self‑approval status with network operators.
* Authorise design work following the Delegation of Authority Guidelines.
* Perform any other duties as directed by the manager.
Experience / Knowledge
* Experience in utilities design, preferably within the Power Distribution sector.
* Knowledge of CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, and current legislation, technical standards, specifications, and ENA.
* Understand recommendations for GTC electrical networks and the implications for safe network management.
Abilities / Skills
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements into project drawings.
* Project management skills.
* Proven negotiation experience with third parties.
* Competency in Microsoft Office or equivalent software.
Desirable
* Degree in an engineering subject or equivalent.
* Membership with a recognised engineering institution at Technician grade or equivalent.
