DevOps Engineer | GDS Discovery | Remote Infrastructure Mapping | Cloud Environments | Dev Tooling | Sandbox Services | Platform Readiness SR2 is supporting a digital consultancy delivering an 12-week GDS-aligned Discovery for a public sector department. We’re looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join the multidisciplinary Discovery team, helping shape the future of the cloud-based development environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in early-phase project work — comfortable analysing infrastructure, defining access and support models, and identifying technical constraints that will shape the foundation of a future Alpha build. Key Responsibilities: Audit and map the existing digital estate to assess current dev environments, infrastructure, and tooling Define what’s technically possible within DBT’s infrastructure, including capabilities and limitations Evaluate access, support, commissioning/decommissioning workflows, and sandbox requirements Provide DevOps input into the Discovery report, including technical feasibility, security guardrails, and future-state architecture Support identification of 3rd-party integration requirements (e.g. OKTA, OneLogin, Notify, etc.) Contribute to recommendations on platform design, delivery timelines, and indicative costs for Alpha Experience: Strong background in DevOps or platform engineering within cloud environments (AWS, Azure, etc.) Experience working on Discovery or Alpha projects in the public sector, ideally aligned to GDS standards Skilled in platform architecture, CI/CD workflows, and infrastructure-as-code Familiar with developer tooling, sandbox environments, and infrastructure access control models Comfortable producing clear documentation and contributing to early-stage architecture planning Collaborative team member, able to work closely with user researchers, designers, and delivery leads The Details: Inside IR35 Start date: ASAP, subject to clearance £500-£525p/d 12-week Discovery Remote-first, with potential occasional onsite sessions If you’re a DevOps or platform engineer who enjoys mapping infrastructure, assessing capability, and helping set the foundations for modern cloud services — apply now for immediate consideration.
