Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Infectious Diseases

Overview
Nottingham University Hospitals is one of the UK’s largest acute teaching hospital Trusts with a national and international reputation for specialist services. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic pharmacist to work with our HIV, Infectious Diseases and Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) teams.
The successful candidate will work directly with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and with our patients in clinics and on wards to provide excellent pharmaceutical care. The post holder will also provide leadership and support to junior members of the team based at the City Hospital Campus.
Responsibilities
* Work directly with clinicians, nurse specialists and finance teams to deliver safe and effective treatment to patients within the HIV, Infectious Diseases and GUM teams.
* Act as an expert resource on the safe and effective use of medicines for the management of HIV.
* Support the safe and effective provision of medicines via homecare and the outpatient pharmacy for HIV patients, including the timely clinical screening of prescriptions.
* Involve in education and training of healthcare professionals including diploma and pre‑registration pharmacists and pharmacy undergraduate students.
* Contribute to HIV/GUM service development and national cost‑saving schemes.
* Work predominantly at the City Hospital Campus, Monday to Friday 9 am‑5 pm (hours negotiable) and participate in a rostered weekend and bank holiday rota, supporting on‑call pharmacists via the senior pharmacist back‑up rota.
* Provide a clinical commitment to inpatient medical wards at the City Campus one day per week.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* Qualified as a pharmacist independent prescriber, or willing to work towards this.
Experience
* Broad previous experience (post‑registration) of clinical pharmacy, particularly in acute settings.
* Some experience of excellent leadership and management skills.
* Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service related policies for a specialty.
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working at Pharmacy, Trust and regional level.
* HIV experience.
Communication & Relationship Skills
* Confident and assertive; able to defend opinions in a confident and constructive manner when challenged.
* Proven ability to influence and negotiate with relevant senior clinicians, managers and stakeholders.
Analytical & Judgement Skills
* Experience of assessing and minimising risk associated with service provision and within medication processes.
* Experience in making judgements involving highly complex facts, which require analysis, interpretation and options appraisal (e.g. drug expenditure, medicines optimisation).
Planning & Organisation Skills
* Ability to plan and organise existing and new clinical pharmacy services to a speciality, including creation and adjustment of plans.
* Self‑motivated with excellent organisational skills, able to motivate others, manage time effectively and work to deadlines, even when under pressure.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
