The Post
The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of the project PI Prof Maria Fusaro. The successful candidate will work under her supervision and that of Dr Guido Rossi (University of Edinburgh), one of the senior fellows of the project Average-Transaction Costs and Risk Management during the First Globalization (Sixteenth-Eighteenth Centuries). This European Research Council funded project focuses on the historical analysis of institutions and their impact on economic development through the investigation of a legal instrument – general average (GA) – which underpins maritime trade by redistributing damages’ costs across all interested parties.
The PDRA will work on Malta, one of the main centres of maritime traffic in the Mediterranean, where the archives of some local notaries contain a wealth of sea protests related to General Average, which will shed light on the development of GA at the intersection between common law and ius commune.
About You
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be fluent in both English and Italian.
