Location: Penrith, Cumbria
Working Hours: 37 hours (on a rota including weekends and evenings.)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £24,243 - £28,930

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier and more independent lives?

At Waythrough, we believe that recovery from mental ill health is possible for everyone. Formerly known as Richmond Fellowship, we are a leading mental health charity providing supported housing and community-based services that empower people to live as independently as possible.

Our Abbots Bank service offers recovery-focused support for adults aged 18+ through supported housing, outreach, and peer support programmes. We’ve been part of the local community for many years, helping people build skills, confidence, and independence in their everyday lives.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Recovery Worker, you’ll play a vital role in helping and inspiring individuals to maintain their tenancies, build independence, and achieve their personal goals. You’ll work closely with each person to create a personalised support plan — empowering them to develop practical skills, manage finances, and access work, leisure, or education opportunities.

Every day will be different. You’ll be working both independently and as part of a supportive team, providing person-centred support that makes a genuine difference.

What You’ll Do

As a Mental Health Recovery Worker, you’ll play a vital role in supporting individuals to take positive steps towards their recovery and independence. You’ll:

1. Work alongside residents to create personalised support plans that reflect their goals, strengths and aspirations.

2. Support people in developing everyday living skills, including budgeting, cooking, and managing their home.

3. Encourage engagement in work, training, volunteering, or leisure activities that promote confidence and wellbeing.

4. Offer emotional support and guidance, empowering people to make their own decisions and overcome challenges.

5. Help individuals maintain their tenancies and access other community-based support services.

6. Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for those you support.

Each day brings new opportunities to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life — whether it’s helping them achieve a small milestone or celebrating a major breakthrough in their recovery journey.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need previous experience to apply - full training will be provided. What matters most is your caring, flexible, and compassionate nature, and your enthusiasm for helping others live fulfilling lives.

You’ll thrive in a role where you can connect with people from all walks of life, adapt to changing needs, and stay calm under pressure.

You’ll also need to:

7. Be able to work independently and as part of a team

8. Be flexible to work on a weekly rota, including weekends

9. Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car

Candidates with an understanding of mental health issues or lived experience are particularly welcome.
