Overview
Locum Consultant Haematologist with a myeloma interest to join UHDB on a 6 month fixed term contract. The post is based at Royal Derby Hospital with across-site work expected due to Trust integration.
In-patient therapies are provided on an 18 bedded haematology ward with BSH level 2b care, including induction treatment and salvage therapies for AMLs and high-grade lymphomas. There is an Acute Unit for unwell patients (CTAU) run by advanced clinical practitioners with medical supervision and shared with Oncology. The department includes several Registrars, specialty Doctors, and a teaching program for medical students from the University of Nottingham and overseas.
The appointee will have the opportunity to shape the future of the service and participate in service development, innovation, and expansion of clinical trials and access to novel therapies. This is a full-time post; part-time arrangements will be considered to suit service needs. The Trust is merged and requires cross-site work.
Responsibilities
The post is a replacement for a Consultant Haematologist to develop the service across hospital sites and to welcome candidates who wish to develop a sub-specialist interest. The successful candidate will join the myeloma service and contribute to service development, innovation, and expansion of clinical trials and access to novel therapies.
Key duties include involvement in ongoing service development, collaboration across sites, and contributing to the evolution of myeloma care at UHDB.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Essential: MRCP and FRCPath
* Desirable: Additional higher medical/scientific degree; GMC Specialist Register status by commencement or evidence that the GMC is processing the application
Teaching & Audit
* Essential: Experience and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates; supervision of F1, F2, ST trainees; ability and experience in teaching clinical skills
* Desirable: Attendance on a management/leadership course; teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
Clinical Experience
* Essential: Commitment to CPD and clinical governance; independent clinical practice; relevant Haematology knowledge; ability to make clinical decisions and manage risk; ability to provide expert opinion and independent responsibility for care
* Desirable: Interest in Myeloma; NHS experience (6 months to 1 year)
Audit/Research
* Essential: Experience in Clinical Audit/QIP; ability to apply evidence-based practice; evidence of academic/research achievements relevant to the specialty
* Desirable: Additional academic/research achievements
Management & Administrative
* Essential: Commitment to CPD and clinical governance; reporting errors and learning from them
* Desirable: Attended a management/leadership course
