The Trauma and Orthopaedic Team based at Darlington MemorialHospital, has an opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse, to join the team.This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who is motivated and passionateabout delivering high standards of patient care.
The service is based at Darlington MemorialHospital on ward 31 and is responsible for all patients attending the trustwith Trauma and Orthopaedic related injuries, including elective orthopaedicservices. The ward is also the designated area for looking after all Headinjuries under the care of our Emergency Department Team.
Main duties of the job
The role will invovle the participation of the leadershipstructure witin the ward based enviroement and you will work alongside the WardManager to succesfully deliver and provide outstanding nursing care to allpatients.
This will involve leading the team clinically and beingresponsible for the patients under your care, ensuring patient care isdelivered safely and effectively.
You will work with the Ward Manager to providesupport, education and assist in the delivery of care. You will also deputisein the absence of the Ward Sister / Manager.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
Asa Registered Nurse you will hold responsibility for the patients under yourcare ensuring that the best care possible is delivered and maintained. You willwork collectively with the team to ensure that patients receive excellent care,whilst maintaining standards and ensuring that the flow of patients areco-ordinated through the admission areas.
Person Specification
Experience
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients in the Trauma and Orthopaedic / Surgical Department.
* Competently deal with medical emergencies and prioritise your own work load.
* Experience of managing patients with fluctuating medical concerns.
* Experience of taking the Nurse in Charge role as a Band 5 in the absence of the ward sister, including day shifts and night duty.
* Help maintain patient flow through the department and evidence examples of how you have achieved this.
* Support discharges within the ward and demonstrate knowledge around the discharges processes including complex cases.
* Evidencing recent leadership and support to junior colleagues
* Demonstarting Co-Ordinating duties such as Ward rounds, working within the MDT, maintaining patient flow throughout the department and how to escalate concerns.
* The ability to discuss and explain complex nursing care and treatment to both patients and their families.
* Experience of mentoring Students and knowledge of the pre registration nursing competencies and requirments.
* Previous Trauma & Orthopaedic / Surgical experience.
* Either as Band 5 or Band 6 Registered nurse demonstrating that you have the knowledge of completing appraisals, acknowledging and responding to incident reports and dealing with patient complaints both verbally and formally.
Special Requirements
* Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post
* Shift work will be required both day and night working.
* On occasions you may be required to support the other Trauma and Orthopaedics and surgical areas within the trust on different sites.
Statutory Registration
* Registration with the NMC and active NMC Pin
Qualifications
* NMC PIN
* Diploma /required nursing qualification
* Teaching Qualification, (Willing to work towards)
* Evidence of continual professional development
* Teaching and assessing qualification desirable
* Degree in Nursing
