Job Description
Portfolio Procurement has been engaged by our leading Cambridgeshire based client to recruit for a Senior Buyer. You'll be working with the Purchasing Team Leader to define and implement a purchasing strategy. Working alongside key stakeholders, you will define and deploy supply chain strategy for new product developments that achieve the business’ delivery, quality, and cost targets.
As part of the role, you will identify, select, and approve suppliers that meet the short, medium, and long-term needs of the business, considering the total cost of ownership over the entire product life and negotiate contracts for outsourced projects for accessories.
Duties
As a Senior Buyer, your day to Day duties will include:
* Defining and deploying supply chain strategies for new products, including supplier identification, selection, and approval.
* Negotiating and managing supplier contracts, focusing on cost reduction, risk mitigation, and total cost of acquisition.
* Collaborating with Design, Quality, and NPI teams to align product design with manufacturing capabilities and prepare suppliers for volume production.
* Managing procurement processes: stock ordering, purchase orders, lean inventory, and timely material delivery.
* Driving continuous improvement and supplier development, identifying new sources to support cost and quality goals.
* Monitoring commodity markets, supplier financial health, and component obsolescence to proactively manage risk.
Skills and Experience
To be a successful Senior Buyer at this business, you'll require extensive Supply Chain experience within the Electronics/Telecommunications industries.
This includes knowledge and experience of:
* The management of complex global Supplier/Customer relationships
* Offshore Contract Manufacturing Management
* Product development from concept to volume manufacture
Additionally you'll need:
* Level 4 CIPS Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply.
* Credibility to influence at senior level – with both internal and external stakeholders.
* Priority and time management – ability to act decisively under pressure
