Everyone here is proud to be in the business of opening doors and minds. This role will sit within the Hodderscape team, with some potential crossover into general Fiction. It will focus on fantasy, sci-fi and general fiction publishing. Hodder & Stoughton publishes household names and undiscovered gems, books that sweep you away or leave you looking at the world with new eyes. They are the publishers of many brand name fiction writers, including John Grisham, Stephen King, Sophie Hannah, Sara Cox, David Nicholls, Callie Hart, Kerri Maniscalco, David Mitchell and Lucy Score. What you'll be doing You will be responsible for managing a list of already acquired titles across the Hodderscape and Fiction lists, including mono, offset and sub-box titles. You will manage author relationships; commission freelancers; handle copyedits, proofreads and any legal or sensitivity reads needed; collate proof corrections; brief and check book covers, including writing copy; and work closely with other in-house departments, such as Marketing and Sales, to drive the success of your titles. You will ensure that your titles run to schedule and on budget, and that all freelance work is commissioned and carried out to a high standard. You will have a comprehensive overview of your list and keep all departments and stakeholders up to date on the status of your titles. This is a 12 month FTC, non-commissioning role. Who we are looking for We're looking for a confident, independent decision maker with knowledge of the SFF publishing market and a passion for exceptional storytelling. Ideally we'd like someone who is currently an Editor, or an Assistant Editor looking to take the next step in their career. If you put the consumer at the heart of everything you do and are passionate about leading your publications to success, then we want to hear from you. We are also looking for candidates with a proven track record of trade project editing, or with the drive to transfer their non-trade experience to commercial trade publishing. Applicants must have meticulous copyediting and proofreading skills, excellent communication and organisational skills and be keen to champion best practice to deliver excellence. You should be proactive, a multitasker and able to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating confidence dealing with colleagues both internally and externally. This is a hybrid role that requires both excellent editorial project management skills and a proven track record of managing titles from acquisition through to publication, supporting authors and wider team to drive the success of a title.
