Trainer/Assessor Road Surfacing / PAVE We are looking for someone with experience in road surfacing, asphalt laying, or PAVE operations. This may include individuals currently working within a road surfacing gang or in an operational surfacing role who are looking to move in-house and develop a career in training and assessment. Reporting into the Lead Assessor, the successful Trainer/Assessor will be responsible for identifying, delivering, and managing the internal assessment and certification of operational training across their geographical area of responsibility. This role is critical in ensuring the competency, skills and knowledge of our operational teams. You will make full and effective use of internal and external training resources, including certification and assessment through approved processes, while building strong relationships across our Business Units to ensure full buy-in to the training programme. What youll be doing As our Trainer/Assessor, you will be responsible for: Ensuring Tarmac complies with all relevant legislative and industry requirements, internal standards, and quality assurance procedures Supporting the delivery of our S&H strategy by ensuring all operational employees have the competent skills required for their roles Delivering training and assessments for fixed and mobile plant, as well as conducting competence assessments through approved processes Delivering a variety of internal training programmes Ensuring all qualifications meet Tarmac Assessment Centre and Internal Verification standards Providing clear and timely progress feedback to managers Leading and coordinating regular progress reviews for apprentices Reviewing apprentice portfolios and supporting delivery of apprenticeship workshops What we are looking for Essential Demonstrable experience in road surfacing, asphalt operations, or PAVE (Ideal for someone currently in a road surfacing gang or operational role who wants to move into training) Strong understanding of industry standards, safe working practices and operational competence within surfacing Personal Attributes Calm, objective and evidence-driven Makes fair, balanced decisions and stays composed under pressure Detail-focused with high professional standards Notices defects, understands long-term performance impacts, and ensures documentation is accurate and auditable Strong communicator with a collaborative mindset Able to explain technical concepts in simple terms and build trust with site teams, managers and clients Adaptable and resilient Able to manage changing priorities and maintain professionalism in challenging conversations Why Tarmac?
