Youth Practitioner - Children who are disabled (CWAD)

Join to apply for the Youth Practitioner - Children who are disabled (CWAD) role at Dorset Council.

We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our team at The Cherries, working with a young person who requires dedicated support. This active child loves spending time outdoors, enjoying activities like walking the Dorset coast and countryside, paddle boarding, and more. After a period at The Cherries, you will transition with him to his forever home in Weymouth.

Your Role as a Youth Practitioner

We are looking for a caring, committed, and positive individual. The role of a Youth Practitioner is rewarding, as you will support the young person, creating a positive and safe environment where they can grow and develop.

Key Responsibilities

* Independent skills development: support in developing skills such as cooking, cleaning, and personal care, fostering independence.
* Engaging activities: organise and participate in activities, especially active outdoor activities.
* Supportive environment: help create a positive and safe environment where the child can grow and develop, making the home welcoming and non-clinical for the child and other employees.
* Team collaboration: work closely with other team members, families, and external agencies to provide the best care, including developing care plans and exploring creative ways to help the child thrive.
* House management: assist with day-to-day running of the home, including cooking meals, cleaning, and administering medication.
* Consistent care: provide stable, long-day support to ensure the child has continuity of care.

What We Can Offer

* Comprehensive training: extensive induction and training programme, including a Level 4 Certificate in Therapeutic Care where required.
* Team environment: diverse teams across the service, united by a passion for helping children, with opportunities to learn from one another.
* Management and benefits: regular supervision and benefits, including an LGPS pension scheme and generous annual leave entitlement.

About You

We are looking for individuals who are:

* Caring, motivated, and enthusiastic
* Passionate about providing high-quality care and creating opportunities for children
* Skilled at forming positive relationships with children and young people
* Adaptive and creative in meeting each child's needs
* Committed to improving the lives and opportunities of disabled children and their families
* Resilient and effective at working within a close-knit team
