Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and are a fundamental part of the UK's grassroots sports infrastructure, allowing teams to spend more time playing and less time on administrative work.It provides:Team management tools to help with the everyday running of grassroots sports clubsMembership database and role management to help organize volunteersMatch fee collection at the pitchside using Apple Pay and Google PayWearable player analytics hardware - GPSIt's a sophisticated cloud-based system (AWS) that includes a comprehensive CI/CD pipeline, custom CDN infrastructure to facilitate thousands of customer domains, multiple microservices to handle on-the-fly image generation & resizing, and a core database holding tens of millions of rows. You'll be instrumental in keeping the system up-to-date and working on new products and features.The GPS products operate as a separate, serverless application using Laravel Vapor (AWS Lambda) and leverages SingleStore to ingest, store, and process data from hardware wearable devices.The Role The team is looking to recruit a Senior/Lead Software Engineer with experience in developing complex web applications using PHP and Laravel with AWS and MySQL. It's a hands-on role with elements of coaching and mentorship for the wider team.You'll join a small team of Software Engineers, working closely with a talented CTO. They love to experiment with the latest tools, technologies, and techniques to improve their award-winning platform.Required Technical Skills;Highly proficient with PHP, and ideally with the team's framework of choice - LaravelExperience with relational databases (MySQL and/or PostgreSQL) and ideally at least one NoSQL or timeseries database (such as MongoDB or SingleStore)A pragmatic attitude towards testing and confidence in writing automated testsExperience with AWS - ideally experience with the key product suite - EC2, ECS, S3, CloudFront, RDSAbility to take ownership of the entire lifecycle of a task from research and specification through development, testing, and deploymentWorking knowledge of JavaScript (The team is using a mix of NodeJS, Next, and React at the moment)API developmentHigh attention to detailStrong verbal & written communication skillsDesired Tech Skills (not essential but a chance to use these skills if you have them or learn them if you'd like to):Knowledge of other programming languages (e.g., Go)Advanced knowledge of a JavaScript framework (e.g., React, Vue, Angular)Deeper experience with Amazon Web Services (e.g., Infrastructure as Code via CloudFormation or Terraform)Flexible Working The team has a split of people working in-office and remote first. With the remote first employees tend to work 1 day a week from the modern workspace in Leeds (with free parking).
