Job Title: Production Supervisor Reports to: Manufacturing Manager Production Job Objective (Purpose) : The production supervisor will supervise and organise the preparation and production of food in within a fast paced food production environment. You will be supervising the production team, ensuring monitoring and maintenance of high levels of food quality and packing. You will have a direct, hands-on approach to managing the team and resolving day to day production issues. This is achieved by: • High standards of personal hygiene • Maintaining a clean production environment • Knowledge of food safety • Understanding and implementing health and safety regulations Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities (Job Duties and Tasks) Staff Supervision 1. Supervise the production team to adhere to strict food hygiene rules and ensure the daily production is delivered. 2. Supervise employee training sessions on subjects such as: a. Food Hygiene and Food Safety b. Manual Handling c. Food Production processes d. Customer service improvement 3. Engage with the production team to ensure the current policies and procedures of the business are fully understood and implemented 4. Develop a good work ethic among the production staff, encouraging mutual trust, respect, and cooperation 5. Participate in settlement of grievances 6. Respond to any management/customer/supplier queries quickly and effectively Administration 1. Analyse data or information identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data into separate parts 2. Organise, plan and prioritise work developing specific goals and plans to accomplish work 3. Record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic form Hygiene 1. Maintain acceptable personal hygiene at all times, following all company procedures 2. Comply with all food hygiene requirements and company procedures 3. Ensure all production equipment and utensils are thoroughly cleaned in compliance with company policy 4. Ensure work station is clean and sanitised Health and Safety 1. Comply with all health and safety requirements, following company policies and procedures 2. Wear all required protective clothing, such as overalls, gloves, shoe covers, headgear, etc., in designated areas 3. Be constantly aware of any possible hazards and report these to your manager immediately 4. When using machinery, follow all safety rules and company policies and procedures regarding machine usage. Never compromise the safe usage of the machinery by removing safety guards etc., from the machines Production 1. Supervise staff work schedules 2. Knowledge of company procedures and product control standards, instructing Production staff on these procedures and setting an example for the team 3. Have a knowledge of all training manuals, ensuring the production staff comply with them at all times 4. Ensure Production staff check and weigh all raw materials, ensuring accuracy 5. Ensure Production staff have all machine settings are correct 6. Supervise quality checks on products produced, for example, the size and weight of the finished product, use by date, packaging 7. Ensure the Production team remove defective products 8. Ensure the working and storage areas are free of hazards as per the company’s health and safety procedures 9. Supervise Line running to ensure: a. ‘Use by Date’ stock is within date and rotated b. All products label state: content, supplier and internal / external Use By Date c. All products are stored according to correct company procedures and policies d. All necessary paperwork is accurately completed e. All products needed for production are readily available and placed in the correct areas 10. Supervise labelling to ensure: a. Check packaging of finished productions to ensure: i. Correct packaging has been used for product ii. Packaging not damaged iii. Packaging has been fully sealed b. Each product has: i. Label if required, ensuring that the correct label is applied either by labelling department or within production ii. Correct ‘use by date’ is printed on each label c. Count finished products to ensure correct quantities have been produced for picking and packing 11. Supervise packing to ensure: a. As finished product comes off the production line, place into packaging b. Correct packaging used for each product c. Load packaged product into heat sealing machine d. As product comes out of heat sealing machine: i. Correct packaging for product has been used ii. Packaging is not damaged iii. Packaging has been fully sealed iv. Correct ‘used by date’ has been printed on the packaging e. Packaged product continues down the line to the labelling operative
