MCR Technical Operations Engineer - Reuters. This position is based in Canary Wharf, London. Join the Master Control Room (MCR) team to ensure live and breaking content reaches millions of consumers worldwide. Reuters is seeking an experienced Technical Operations Engineer for our TV Support & Operations team based in London. The role involves working in a fast-paced, 24/7 London MCR operation, responsible for the technical assessment, coordination and supervision of incoming news feeds and the transmission of news coverage to Reuters video products. You will also assist with other key areas such as technical planning, equipment testing, preparation and deployment, and direct operational support of news and video equipment in the field.
About the role: As a Technical Operations Engineer at Reuters, you will:
* Work in the London MCR, as part of the wider global TV operations team.
* Ensure the successful delivery of Reuters editorial content. Configure, route, supervise and coordinate video/audio signals from linear and file-based sources.
* Supervise and assess signal quality, maintain high technical standards, and prepare, test and deploy equipment for field operations.
* Perform proactive health checks, conduct first-level fault diagnosis, and collaborate with support teams globally to resolve issues.
* Continually review and optimise operational protocols to meet business needs.
* Produce high quality operational documentation to support MCR operations and ensure continuity of service.
* Be flexible with shift patterns, including night shifts, with possible travel at short notice.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Technical Operations Engineer at Reuters if you have:
* Previous experience in a broadcast TV environment.
* Knowledge of video formats and standards, compression/conversion techniques for linear and file-based video, and file transmission methods.
* Practical knowledge of IT infrastructure and connectivity, TCP/IP networking and multi-VLAN networks.
* Knowledge and experience of IP-based video delivery, including transport protocols and related standards.
* Quality assessment skills to supervise TV operations to a high technical standard.
* Good situational awareness and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear information flow.
* Willingness and pro-activity to assist in all areas of the operation and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Ability to understand customer requirements and apply consultative problem solving to meet needs.
