Mechanical Engineer - Turnkey
PAYE £288.15 or Umbrella £404.38
Minimum 3 days on Site & 2 days WFH - Hinkley Point C, Somerset
The Joint Design O?ce (JDO) has been created to reinforce the HPC site-based engineering to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary bene?t of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions to pursue their activities.
Vacancy Overview
* Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, the post-holder will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer, contributing to the r eview and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the Equipment scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
* The role will be focused on the Turnkey discipline dealing with various Turnkey contractors delivering in both NI and CI-BOP areas but will be interfaced with other disciplines and with several parties, such the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).
Key Responsibilities
* Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the Turnkey Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
* Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
* Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
* Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
* Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
* Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
* Maintain a strong relationship with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer)
* Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.
The Skills
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Extensive experience in Equipment design, installation and/or commissioning.
* Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
* In-depth knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
* Experience in the understanding of welding engineering.
* Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
* Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
