About the Ward
Ward 31 is a 23‑bedded, dedicated fracture neck of femur ward and is the only ward of its kind in Scotland. It is a busy, forward‑thinking ward within a diverse directorate, working collaboratively across the Orthopaedic Department.
Job Overview
The role involves delivering high quality, compassionate, and person‑centred care to a predominantly frail and elderly patient population, many of whom experience delirium, dementia, and complex orthopaedic needs. You will work as part of a highly motivated multidisciplinary team that includes medical staff, therapists and wider support services, aiming to continually improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high quality, compassionate, person‑centred care to frail, elderly patients with delirium, dementia and acute medical conditions.
* Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with medical staff, therapists and support services.
* Cover day and night duties on a rotational shift basis in line with service needs.
* Gain experience across Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic Wards, including the new Fife Elective Orthopaedic Centre.
* Support safe, effective and timely care for a complex patient group.
Developing Clinical Skills
* Patient vital sign observations
* Blood glucose monitoring
* Venepuncture
* Additional training opportunities will be provided to develop extended clinical skills.
Qualifications & Experience
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing demands of a busy acute ward environment.
* Willingness to complete an SVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent); training and support for successful completion will be provided.
* Desirable extended clinical skills, but training will be available if required.
* Motivation, reliability and a commitment to providing high quality care.
