The Opportunity
In the role of Livewell Advisor, here's an example of what you'll be doing to make an impact:
The Council's Livewell service offers free lifestyle programmes to help adults and children in Derby to manage their weight, stop smoking, get fitter and improve their overall wellbeing. We are looking to recruit Livewell Advisors to manage a caseload of clients for weight management, getting active and quit smoking support.
As an Advisor you will support the client to make positive and sustained lifestyle choices and provide health education in a variety of subject areas over a 12-month period. The advisor will be working with diverse communities so experience of supporting people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds is important. Therefore, we particularly welcome applications from those with a working understanding (e.g. speaking and listening) of the common languages in Derby's communities.
You'll be organised, client-focussed with an enthusiastic approach to helping people to discover their own solutions and build their resilience. Whilst experience of supporting lifestyle change and managing caseloads is preferred, we're also excited to hear from individuals who are supporting communities and helping groups in other ways.
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have some or all of the following...
* Recognised qualification in Fitness, Physical Activity, Nutrition or equivalent relevant health qualification, or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of behaviour change principles and techniques, or equivalent training or experience.
* Smoking cessation qualification or equivalent, or equivalent experience delivering smoking cessation support.
* Experience delivering community outreach programmes.
* Experience working in a health, wellbeing or community-based setting.
* Experience in a customer-facing or client-support role within a health-related environment.
* Experience managing and prioritising a caseload of clients.
* Experience supporting individuals to make positive lifestyle or behaviour changes.
* Ability to deliver one-to-one and/or group-based health or wellbeing interventions.
* Ability to build rapport and motivate individuals from diverse communities.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
* Ability to maintain accurate records and monitor client progress.
* Demonstrable passion for health and wellbeing.
* Commitment to addressing health inequalities and improving outcomes within local communities.
