Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Infection Prevention and Control team for a band 7 Infection Control Nurse. This role will involve liaising with nursing/clinical colleagues to ensure IPC practices and priorities in reducing hospital acquired infections are understood and maintained.

This role will draw from specialist skills and knowledge to advise and support members of the multidisciplinary team and operational team in matters relating to IPC including isolation and patient transfer.


Main duties of the job

Minimise Healthcare Associated Infection through promotion of effective Infection Prevention and Control practice and standards across the Trust.

Take a lead role in the investigation and management of outbreaks of infection and maintain clear documented records of events and actions.

Support the Lead IPC nurse in the identification of Infection Prevention and Control risks and implement strategies to reduce those risks to ensure a year on year reduction in healthcare associated infections across the Trust.

Provide line management to band 6 nurses within the team and other members of the specialist team as required.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

Registration on Part 1 or 12 of NMC Register (RGN or RN Adult).

Recognised teaching and assessing qualification.

Post-graduate degree or equivalent qualification and experience in Infection Control.

Nursing or other relevant Health Care related degree or willing to undertake courses.

Evidence of continuing professional development.


Desirable criteria

Membership of special interest and professional group.


Experience


Essential criteria

Substantial post-registration experience or equivalent.

NHS experience at Band 6 working in infection control or related speciality.

Leading and managing a team.

Leading and managing change within a clinical environment.

Presentation of information to professional groups.

Experience in clinical audit.

Updating policies and procedures.


Desirable criteria

Development of education, training and supporting strategies.


Knowledge


Essential criteria

Infection Control and the application of this in practice.

Policies and procedures for Infection Control Current NHS issues and current developments in nursing practice.

Knowledge in Clinical governance processes.

NMC standards and Code of conduct, performance and ethics.

Management of COSHH and Health and Safety of Patients, staff and visitors.

Sound communication skills - written and verbal, with all grades of staff.

IT skills including use of Word, PowerPoint and Excel applications.
