Overview
A Personal Assistant is required to support an active and sociable eight-year-old boy with autism, living in Falmouth. He enjoys outdoor activities, water-based activities, and spends time with animals. He is a brilliant swimmer, reasonably independent with personal care, and enjoys listening to music, going to the cinema, and playing Minecraft and ROBLOX.
Responsibilities
* Support the child to access the community and participate in activities, including swimming, rugby, trips to the beach, cinema visits, and time outdoors.
* Assist with personal care as needed (e.g., dressing after swimming, with socks if required) while promoting independence where possible.
* Engage with the child in a positive, fun, and sociable manner; support safety and enjoyment in activities.
* Assist with routine planning and logistics to help the family balance daily life.
Qualifications and Experience
* Some knowledge or personal experience of working with young people is essential.
* A full driving licence is desirable.
* Experience with complex medical needs is helpful but not essential.
Details
* Five hours per week are available, with flexible scheduling to suit the candidate’s availability. Some weekend and school holiday availability will be required.
* Rate of pay starts at £13.50 per hour, with potential increase based on skills and experience.
* The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
